Protests are part of Argentina's history. Demonstrations vanished from Argentina street life during the government of General Videla and his state sponsored terrorism but flourished again when the country started it's new democracy in 1983. In those days it was almost "forbidden to forbid." Since then anything can be a cause for people to take to the streets. Demonstrations are however rarely violent. The December 2001 riots show Argentines' disenchantment in it's democratic institutions and new democracy.
