At Okeetantie on Lake Okeechobee workers remove the muck on the lake bottom. The earthen bottom has become cracked because of the drought...In June of 2007 the state of Florida is experiencing one of the worst droughts in modern history. Lake Okeechobee is at a record low. The South Florida water management is using this opportunity to clean up the lake. After years of abuse the phosphorous laden lake bottom is being scrapped clean. The muck has been created because of the dairy farming and agricultural uses of the surrounding land. Many are to blame.
